For Otgo Dashdorj, keeping her cows calm starts with a song. But sustaining a dairy farm in Mongolia’s changing climate takes much more. After 27 years as nomadic pastoralists, Otgo and her husband have shifted to year-round dairy farming. They now plan to double their herd and join a cluster farm, sharing infrastructure and services with other small-scale producers. Their journey reflects the challenges facing Mongolia’s dairy sector.
