About

Agtivate is a platform designed to share experiences, trigger dialogue and innovate on sustainable agrifood investment in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Türkiye and the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean.

It stems from a shared vision of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (the EBRD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to make agrifood systems greener, more inclusive and more resilient through responsible private investment, enabling policies and targeted technical assistance.

Agtivate provides a space to all interested parties – from international financial institutions to private companies, producers’ organizations, policymakers and academics – for interactions on how to transform agrifood systems for the better.

Created by the EBRD and FAO, the Agtivate hub builds on the EBRD’s agribusiness investment experience, FAO’s technical knowledge and policy facilitation skills, and the joint experience of the two institutions to make private agrifood investment greener, more inclusive and more resilient.

The EBRD and FAO started to cooperate in 1997. Since then, they have implemented close to 200 technical assistance projects supporting the EBRD’s agribusiness investment portfolio and making it more sustainable. The takeaways from this rich experience used to be disseminated through the EastAgri and MedAgri platforms, covering the two main regions of operation of the Bank. In 2022, the two platforms were discontinued and merged into Agtivate.

The joint activities of the EBRD and FAO are guided by the two institutions’ corporate strategic frameworks and priorities, in particular, EBRD’s Strategic and Capital Framework and FAO’s Four Betters.
