The EBRD and FAO have launched Greening Kyrgyzstan’s Economy: Know More, Act Better, Enhance Results to improve farmland management and food security in the Kyrgyz Republic. The initiative will use advanced GIS technology, managed by the State Agency for Land Resources, to support farmers, aggregators and policymakers in improving land-use efficiency, crop monitoring and sustainable water management.
The project introduces a mobile app for farmers and a free e-extension advisory service supported by local agribusinesses and the Ministry of Digital Development. With agriculture employing nearly half the workforce and contributing 12 per cent to GDP, this initiative aims to boost productivity, strengthen supply chains and reduce emissions – aligning with the Kyrgyz Republic’s Paris Agreement commitments.
The EBRD has invested over €1 billion in the country since 1992, focusing on sustainable infrastructure and the private sector.
