For over ten years, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have been working together to champion traditional food products and the communities behind them. Their collaborative efforts have centred around empowering farmers and producers to preserve their cultural heritage while embracing sustainable practices. Through initiatives that enhance product recognition, quality standards and market access, for example origin-based labels like geographical indications (GIs), these efforts have strengthened the link between quality food, local identity and environmental stewardship.
The EBRD is now hosting a striking online photographic exhibition, showcasing pictures that tell the vibrant stories woven into traditional foods from Jordan, Kazakhstan, Morocco and Serbia. Each image captures the essence of local landscapes, generations of expertise, and the deep-rooted connection between people and their culinary heritage.
The exhibition is a visual celebration of how food can be a powerful vessel for culture, sustainability and community.
