ACES: Reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions

Under the ACES initiative, FAO and the EBRD are pursuing an integrated approach to help reduce GHG emissions in the agrifood sector by (i) translating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) commitments into investment-ready roadmaps that identify priority mitigation and resilience opportunities, (ii) developing robust insetting frameworks to enable credible accounting, certification and reduction of supply-chain emissions across agribusiness value chains, and (iii) unlocking carbon market mechanisms to monetize verified emission reductions and mobilize investment for scalable decarbonization through carbon credit generation and trading.

Enhancing market diversification for traditional product value chains in Tunisia, Jordan and Morocco

This project aims to strengthen traditional agrifood value chains in Jordan, Morocco, and Tunisia while preserving product authenticity and supporting local communities. It focuses on improving quality, organizing supply chains, expanding local and international markets, and promoting sustainability to help businesses become more resilient and profitable while boosting rural economies.

Regional: Scoping agrifood value chain investments in Western sub-Saharan Africa

This project supports the EBRD in strengthening its engagement in West Africa’s agrifood sector by identifying high potential investment opportunities across priority agrifood value chains. The assignment began in Nigeria, followed by Côte d’Ivoire, Benin and Senegal, and will expand later to Ghana.

Putting Georgia’s traditional foods on the culinary roadmap

The EBRD and FAO are working with partners in Georgia to strengthen its agritourism industry and create more jobs in rural areas, protect livelihoods and culinary traditions, and preserve local biodiversity.

A fresh approach to diversifying agrifood exports in the Western Balkans

Working closely with public and private sector partners in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Ukraine are building on their long-established export markets for grains and cereals by offering an extra serving of fresh fruit, with a side order of honey and wine.
